SPARK Technical Training on General Virtual Assistance 2.0: Graduation Held in Bansud
Today marked a proud day for digital skills in our province. The DICT MIMAROPA, through DICT Oriental Mindoro and the ICT Academy via the SPARK Program, officially graduated the scholars of the SPARK Technical Training on General Virtual Assistance (GVA) 2.0 in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.
The program carried the theme “A Paradigm Shift in AI-Powered Interaction,” reflecting how virtual assistance work is changing. Today’s VA is no longer just someone who answers emails. They use AI tools, manage digital workflows and communicate professionally with clients around the world.
As the trainer for this batch, I had the privilege of guiding our scholars from their first lesson to this milestone. If you read my pre-graduation reflection, this is the follow-up: the ceremony is done, and our graduates are ready for the next step.
What Is the DICT SPARK Program?
SPARK stands for Strengthening the Philippine Workforce through Adaptive and Responsive Digital Knowledge. It is a DICT initiative that equips Filipinos with practical digital skills that lead to real employment and freelancing opportunities.
Through partnerships with local government units, SPARK brings industry-relevant training directly to communities, including provincial towns like Bansud, so that learners do not have to move to Metro Manila to access digital careers. The General Virtual Assistance track is one of its most in-demand programs because it opens the door to remote work with clients in the Philippines and abroad.

What Is General Virtual Assistance, and Why Does It Matter?
A General Virtual Assistant (GVA) is a remote professional who supports businesses and entrepreneurs with administrative, communication and organizational tasks online. Because GVAs can work from anywhere with a stable internet connection, it is one of the most accessible entry points into the digital economy for Filipinos in the provinces.
Core Skills a General Virtual Assistant Uses
- Email and calendar management: organizing inboxes, scheduling meetings and handling client correspondence.
- Data entry and document handling: working accurately in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- Customer support: replying to inquiries through email, chat and social media.
- Basic social media and content tasks: scheduling posts and preparing simple graphics.
- AI-powered productivity: using AI tools to draft, summarize and research faster while checking the output for accuracy.
- Professional communication: writing clear updates, proposals and reports for clients.
- Freelance readiness: building a profile, writing proposals and landing a first client.
Why This Matters for Oriental Mindoro
Remote work lets local talent earn competitive income without leaving their families or their province. Every new virtual assistant in Bansud strengthens the local economy and shows the next generation that a digital career is possible right here in Mindoro.
